How Do You Design An Office?
Is there an ideal design? Should you conform to the trends? What specifications should you look out for when designing an office?
First, you need to:
-
Brainstorm
Ask your co-workers, superiors, or anyone who will be occupying the office for suggestions. Be open to recommendations and criticisms. Take note of the following when you collaborate with your partners or co-workers.
-
Company Profile
What does your company do? You can’t just pick any design without putting this thought a consideration. Your design and the company’s profile must complement each other. If you were to design a law firm, would you incorporate loud or vibrant colors? Definitely not. The design should bring out the company’s best features because doing so equates to credibility and reliability.
-
Number of People
How many people will be sharing this office? Is the size ample to accommodate that number? How do you expect the employees to function and perform if the space gets too cramped?
-
No External Force
Is your company the type that accepts guests or visitors? How often do you have meetings or huddles?
-
Freedom of Movement
Is your company into a fast-paced movement, or are employees expected to be in their respected cubicles most of the day?
Now that you have factored in these considerations, what will your reservations be?
Do you think any of these factors can hinder you from creating an office design you deem appropriate?
If you find yourself certain about not having any setbacks proceed to Stage 2.
-
Plan and Pan
After a successful brainstorming, you most likely have an image of what you want. Make a visual presentation of what you expect to achieve. It is best to hire people who know what they’re doing for your plan to pan out. If that is not your forte, leave it to people who eat, breathe and sleep that specific field.
What is a Feasible Office Design?
-
Less is More
Keep everything at a minimum to avoid clutter. Studies show how clutter contributed to unproductivity. You wouldn’t want that. If there is one thing you should keep more, that’s storage. Make sure your office has ample storage, especially if you have a lot of documents or if your company is running primarily on paper.
-
Keep wires hidden
Unruly wires add to clutter, and as mentioned, it is not good, so make sure you tuck in all wires but keep them accessible if there’s a need to check them.
-
Be generous with space
A cramped office clogs the creative and productive side of employees. Make room for movement.
-
Restroom
Depending on the number of employees and the size of the office, have ample restrooms.
-
Recreation
Bulk tasks can lead to burnout. Allot a recreation room where your employees can rest, unwind and relax. A relaxed mind releases creative juices, so be extra considerate.
-
Pantry
Employees need food. Your office should have an area where they can eat, like the pantry. It should at least have a water dispenser ( if your pipes don’t have RO and soft water system), microwave oven, a fridge, a sink, and of course a coffee maker.
-
Internet
Everything runs through technology. Your internet connection should be high speed as it affects the overall performance of a company if it’s lagging.
-
Room
Make room for sitting, receiving, and meeting areas. Having those areas promote orderliness.
-
Sanitation
Place disinfecting or sanitizing station upon entry to your office, near the restrooms, and in every hallway or desk. Do not dismiss that we are still in the pandemic, so establish a sanitizing area.
-
Integrate greens
Green plants keep the mind moving. Add in pots and vases of plants. Not only will plants add a pop of color, but they are also beneficial to people’s health.
Designing an office is an exciting experience. You get to be creative, and at the same time, it helps you to be considerate, especially since you are thinking about what you want and what others want.
